In 24 hours…im packing my bags and off to Saigon, Vietnam. What am i doing there? For how long? When will i be back? I wish there was an answer. Till then, be good and eat your veggies.

Time for a change…

i didn’t know i had so many stuffs to clear!

Well, the day has come. I’m happy. Never felt happier.
No more crazy hours, no more being an all in one designer (art director, stylist, logistics personnel, product sourcing, etc etc etc)

But a part of me is feeling quite down. I don’t know why. I can’t explain it.
The obvious part is the friends I’m leaving behind. But of course there is always the phone and msn, and random coffee meet-ups.
Another thing that bothers me is that my mind has not registered fully that I’m a free man now.

Today i went for my very last press check at tuas. Came in, checked the covers. Made some comments, and voila. Dropped S and J at Jurong Point and went home to lug the 2 boxes. After dinner with the missus, i was making a self reminder to self, saying “i gotta go for another press check tomorrow for the inside editorials…”

Then it struck me.
Wtf was i thinking.

Maybe i need closure. Yesterday’s “ok its a wrap!” by J wasn’t enough i guess. I felt lost. So lost, that i missed a turn. I feel…empty. *SIGH*

Away from F1 Madness

Yesterday was the F1’s practice session.
Roads were closed, and yes, traffic was a bitch.

To avoid all that, me and the missus headed for sunset grill, tucked far far away in Seletar.

But whoa, seems like they were having some aircraft event there. i was right. A sign says “Aircraft Sale!”

GoThere Rebranding (with exclusive interview)

Gothere, probably the best navigational site in Singapore, has got a fresh new look.

What do i think about this rebranding?
1) Corporate Color
Really love to see the team stick to their original corporate color. Red represents singapore. Red and Black is a perfect combination for the bold and ‘we-know-our-stuffs’ image. But hey, the green is very much welcomed.

2) Logo Longevity
A logo should be able to convey its message over a long period of time and easily adaptable to changes. The ‘map pindropper’ look might be the ‘in’ thing right now (with google maps using it) but it will become outdated and there might be a need to change it in years to come

3)Overall
I simply love the new look. Refreshing and soothing at the same time.

Firstly, what is your name and what do you do?
I’m Dominic Ee and I write code (among other things) at GoThere.

What makes the GoThere team?
Motivated individuals who are bold and dares to challenge the big players.

We’re sure there are obstacles to start off with, any ‘memorable’ ones?
Getting complaints about the our directions and locations, and dealing with users’ expectations. Usability is an important goal for us and we are constantly iterating based on feedback from our users.

What is your long term plan with GoThere?
To create a useful and indispensable service for the people in Singapore.

Do you feel GoThere as a direct competitor for services like SBS’s Iris, Transitlink’s Journey Planner?
No. Their core business is essentially providing a good public transport network for Singaporeans. For us, other than providing directions, we also want to provide Singaporeans with an accurate and extensive database of businesses and interesting places to visit through our site.

What is your take on the current state of Singapore’s transportation?
People are still handicapped by the lack of information on how to travel using public transport. Roads are getting congested, so there’s still a lot of room for improvement. More can be done to encourage use of public transport.

E2

We have a kitten and her name is E2. Don’t ask why.

E2 is a rescued cat from Zouk. Don’t ask why.
Ok ok, the brother works at Zouk, and he rescued E2 one day cos apparently SPCA was doing their rounds. (and you know what they might do next) I don’t really know her age, but my best bet would be somewhere around 5 months. E2 was brought home quietly in a Dom Perignon (haha!) box, cos mom wasn’t a fan of pets.

We never had pets before. Oh well, except for the gerbil who ran away. Mom was never a fan of pets. Did i say that already? Oh, yeah.

E2 became part of the family on July 9th. I came back from work (3am dammit!!) and there was a kitten in the house! How excited i was! I remember asking Nad for tips on keeping a cat. Mom’s initial plan was to keep her till she’s big enough to fend for herself. Eventually, we grew attached to her and we treated E2 like part of the family.

Curiosity killed the cat, so the saying goes. Being young and very curious, it was natural for E2 to try out new things. Today she decided to learn about height. And it was not a good lesson.

E2 fell from the 12th storey…but she survived. Oh my God! Emotions were pouring out this morning… and the vet said this incident was a miracle. A miracle indeed! She is warded for 3 days in the pet hospital and there were no broken bones. We are hoping for the best.

I am thankful for her nine lives. Never will i leave my sights off her again. Never.

We miss you E2. We love you. Get well soon, i bought you your favourite mackerel and chicken.

UPDATE

E2 is back home! Yay!
She’s fine but very quiet.
On antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication.
Vet said 2 weeks hardcore resting. No climbing, no naughty things. Mom called me up and said “The vet gave E2 2 weeks MC, no need to go school!” Hahah..
And she lets me pet her more now…good girl! Sayang dia!

First off, let me say that this ad is to me, kinda disrespectful, sexist and would work best as an advert in a man’s magazine, lets say…FHM.

Secondly, the mechanics of the ad would also work great on a laxative/diarrhea product.

Art directed by Ashidiq Ghazali, this advert for Panadol Menstrual really brings out the message.
Never mess with p-m-s.

Trivia: You might know Ashidiq as the other half of the duo Construction Site of the Asia Bagus fame and also hear him spin some drum n bass.
